In the study, researchers found that infants averaging six months of age who exhibited positional plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome) had lower scores than typical infants in observational tests used to evaluate cognitive and motor development. This is the first controlled study to suggest that babies who have flattened areas on the back of their heads during the first year of life may be at risk for developmental delay.

I just got a delightful email from a mother in Keller, Texes thanking me for creating Baby Moon Pillow!  Her baby Cody was referred to a specialist because they thought he needed a helmet.  Luckily for baby Cody a friend of the family found our Baby Moon Pillow online.  They used it anytime Cody was in the car seat, stroller or swing.  After using it for about 3 months, the specialist determined Cody wouldn’t need to wear a helmet.

It occurs in infants and is marked by the back or side of the head being flattened. There will also be little or no hair growth in the area. The most common cause is an infant spending a lot of time lying on his back with his head resting on flat surfaces such as cribs, strollers or car seats. Babies’ heads are soft to allow for brain growth, so they are susceptible to taking on a flat shape.

Experts say that to prevent baby flat head syndrome, you should try to limit the amount of time that the baby spends in a car-seat, bouncy seat, swing, or other device that puts pressure on the back of her head.

Instead of holding back on all those things babies enjoy you can use a Baby Moon Pillow. The pillow can easily be inserted behind the head of the infant while in any of these situations and will help save his or her head from becoming flat.
